The Sexpressionists Project is one of my oldest endeavors. My goal with the project is to stimulate discussion and share knowledge about love, relationships, and of course, sex.
Back in my undergrad years, the psychology of sex and gender was my primary focus. I wanted to be the next Alfred Kinsey or Will Masters, but after graduation, I was given an opportunity to teach high school psychology. I fell in love with teaching psych, and ended up doing that for close to twenty years.
During that time, I discovered I loved writing, which led to a few weird blogs about barefoot and/or trail running, and the publishing of a few books on barefoot running, trail running, and even living in an RV as a nomadic barefoot running hippie.
But my interest in sex and gender never faded. This project was my creative outlet to tickle that itch. Based on the feedback I received in the earlier days of this blog, I realized a lot of people were really struggling in their relationships, and almost without exception, when you stripped away the anger and resentment over chores, parenting, in-laws, and toilet seats, the problems almost always circled back to sex. The "Dead Bedroom" phenomenon was very, very real.
These problems usually came in two flavors: Either the sex became routine and boring OR one partner wanted way more sex than the other. Sometimes the first problem caused the second.
Regardless, I realized neither of these problems were insurmountable. In fact, the solution was usually pretty simple. All it took were a few simple strategies, many of which were topics covered in this blog. That eventually led to my last book, "No Bone Zone."
Yes, the title is goofy, but the actual content was pretty good.
After writing NBZ, I realized I was missing some key variables, including the effects of gender on sexual arousal. What started as a minor expansion of this project turned into a multi-year exploration of the nature of masculinity and femininity. More specifically, I explored the damage being done by modern beliefs that gender roles are bad, and how to fix that problem.
That rabbit hole led to the realization that a big chunk of the damage caused by modernity is caused by an erosion of human connection due to technology and regressive social norms. The solution, I discovered, was the re-establishment of tribes, or small groups of people who share a close bond. Within those tribes, connections between individuals flourish. The tribe offers a powerful antidote to negative effects of modernity.
That epiphany then circled back to my original concern - helping people who struggle with relationships. That, of course, led back to my original hypothesis that fixing sex problems fixed relationship problems.
That's where I am right now (as of winter, 2025). The original ideas I kicked around on this blog, and NBZ, weren't wrong, they were just incomplete. The deeper understanding of the true nature of gender, and the role of our closest non-sexual connections, have framed everything in a way that has given me the insight to create a broadly-effective framework for not just saving relationships, but for giving people the power to forge their own true tribe, find their deepest authentic meaning and purpose, and finally feel completely and absolutely whole.

My other notable blogs:
The Tribe of the Fire - This is my latest project for those of you who are searching for deeper meaning and real, authentic connections. As of Fall 2025, it's still a work in progress.
jasonrobillard.com - This is my "random things that don't easily fit elsewhere" blog, which tends to bridge old interests with the new. It's my "stream of conscious" writing outlet.
The Lab - My first attempt at developing a formal "tribe", this blog documents a lot of my early thoughts on the nature of close relationships and how they can be manifested in the modern world.
El Diablo Man Camp - My more refined blog about masculinity; I revisit a lot of the topics from the SD Man Camp blog with greater clarity and integration as I started to understand the importance of the connections we share.
San Diego Man Camp - My first blog about masculinity; the writing in here is rough, primal, and a little angry, which reflected my own personal journey to discovering my authentic self, especially in regard to being a man.
Never Wipe Your Ass With a Squirrel - My trail and ultrarunning blog that eventually became the book of the same name.
Barefoot Running University - A mirror of the original site; this was my primary blog about running and life, which I used for many years until my hobbies shifted from running to mma and Brazilian jiu jitsu.
Barefoot Chronicles - Where it all started, May 26, 2009. This is my original blog that documented my start to barefoot running and ultrarunning.
